Membership is by invitation and in accordance with the Spotswood Family Descendants Constitution. The membership process begins when an individual produces a Sponsor. If there is no Sponsor, the individual should call the society’s office to have one assigned. A prospective member must demonstrate descent from Governor Alexander Spotswood, or the Scottish line whose common ancestor is Archbishop John Spottiswoode of St. Andrews, Scotland.

Once a member has completed the application process and has been accepted as a Documented Member, a Certificate, suitable for framing, is presented to the new member. Membership provides opportunities for fellowship with other members, and education through informative programs and sites visited at annual Heritage Weekends.
